Bermuda Records 6th & 7th Road Traffic Deaths

Two persons in as many days succumbed to their injuries after being in a road traffic incident.

June 12, 2023

A visiting female injured in that serious road traffic collision which occurred in Southampton  Sunday, June 11th, sadly, has succumbed to her injuries. The collision occurred shortly before 5:00 p.m. on Middle Road just west of Evans Bay. The woman, 46-year-old Angela Meyer, was the pillion passenger on a livery cycle ridden by her 47- year-old husband. The couple who were visiting from Canada, were traveling in the westbound lane when the rider lost control of the cycle and crossed into the path of a motorcar traveling in the eastbound lane and the two vehicles collided. The visiting couple were transported by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where Mrs. Meyer was pronounced dead, a short time later. Her husband was attended to for his injuries and discharged. This marks the island’s seventh road fatality this year. None of the occupants of the motorcar were injured.

If you have any information on this incident, place contact Constable Kevin Medeiros on 717-2402 or, via email, kmedeiros@bps.bm.

Police can also identify the island’s sixth road traffic fatality for the year as, 38-year-old Filipino guest worker, Jerry Colantes. Mr. Colantes was involved in a single vehicle collision which took place shortly before 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, 10th June. He was reportedly riding a motorcycle east on North Shore Road, Devonshire, just east of the junction with Dock Hill, when he lost control of the bike and collided with a wall. He was thrown over the wall on impact and down an embankment. He sustained a serious head injury and was attended to at the scene by EMTs before being transported by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. Anyone who may have witnessed this collision or has any information on the circumstances which led up to it, is asked to contact Sergeant Anton Gilbert on 717-2338 or agilbert@bps.bm.

The Bermuda Road Safety Council extended deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Colantes and Mrs. Meyer.
